International Women’s Day

On this day, we celebrate the efforts of all women in making our world better. The day was designated to bring light to the inequality women still experience despite us living in the 21st century.

Sadly this inequality spills over into lung cancer as well. Lung cancer is responsible for the greatest number of cancer related deaths in women. Non-smoking women have a higher chance of getting lung cancer than non-smoking men and the ratio of women getting lung cancer between the age of 39 and 50 is increasing for unclear reasons (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/eutils/elink.fcgi?dbfrom=pubmed&retmode=ref&cmd=prlinks&id=29791813).

The good news is lung cancer deaths continue to decrease in women in general. Continued research to assist women in quitting smoking, screening for lung cancer and better medicines will continue this trend. ‘Til No Woman Dies of Lung Cancer!
