Happy Memorial Day!!
On this Memorial Day, we thank the men and women who have given so much of themselves in the defense and preservation of this great country. But simply thanking them for their service is NOT enough.
Military veterans have a 58% increased risk of lung cancer compared to civilians due to their exposure to asbestos, Agent Orange, cigarette smoke, depleted uranium and combustion products. Although lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the world, veterans have a higher than expected lung cancer mortality despite similar therapy.
For World War II and Korean War Veterans, lung cancer causes greater years of life lost than combat casualties! Therefore, research into improving treatment strategies for veterans with lung cancer must be a priority over just thanking them for their service.
‘Cause No Veteran Should Die of Lung Cancer!
