Lung Cancer Research Funding Lags!
Lung Cancer remains the number one cause of cancer death in all people and is the second highest diagnosed cancer in both genders. The improvements in breast cancer mortality demonstrate just how well research improves the lives of those stricken with disease. But that takes funding and awareness. Organizations like the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Breastcancer.org have done a phenomenal job raising both awareness and funding to support the researchers whose science has improved the lives of breast cancer victims.
This diagram represents the 2022 Federal Research funding per death for four of the more deadly cancers (source: lungcanceresearchfoundation.org). Despite being the number one cause of cancer related deaths, lung cancer lags well behind the other three in terms of funding.
Research saves lives. To make an impact on the deadliest cancer, research funding for lung cancer must improve!
